Bowie Justice Court
The Bowie Justice Court is located in Cochise County off Interstate 10. Bowie is near the border with New Mexico.
The Bowie Justice Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. This means that it only handles civil traffic tickets, misdemeanor criminal charges, and civil disputes where the amount at issue is less than $10,000.00. Bowie does not deal with felony criminal charges. Civil and misdemeanor tickets issued by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS, or highway patrol), or Arizona Department of Transportation will wind up in Bowie if the violation occurred within Bowie’s jurisdiction.

Below you can see Bowie’s precinct, or jurisdiction, in yellow.
Bowie Justice Court’s jurisdiction includes a large portion of the I-10 from west of the 191 all the way east to the New Mexico border. This means the port of entry near the border is included in Bowie’s jurisdiction. The I-10 sees a lot of commercial traffic and as a result, Bowie handles a lot of traffic tickets involving commercial drivers. We see a lot of tickets for CDL holders out of this court, including things like failure to stop at a port of entry, overweight and no record of duty status. Civil speeding tickets and criminal speeding tickets are also common.
Court Notes
In our experience, Bowie Justice Court will require a defendant to appear in person to deal with a warrant. However, if the defendant hires an attorney, the court will not require the defendant to appear in person and will quash the warrant without requiring the payment of a bond.
The prosecutors in this court are very professional and in our experience, treat defendants fairly.
