General Information About The Mayer Justice Court

Mayer Justice Court handles about 8,500 cases per year. It is a court of limited jurisdiction, meaning it handles civil cases involving less than $10,000, civil and criminal traffic violations, and misdemeanors. If you receive a ticket from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office or Arizona Department of Public Safety inside the Court’s precinct, your case will be handled here. This Court has a large precinct, encompassing about 1,600 square miles in Yavapai County.

The Mayer Justice Court’s close proximity to the I-17 highway makes criminal speeding tickets and other moving violations popular in this court. Additionally, the speed limit drops from 65 mph to 50 mph as you drive through Mayer, so if you’re not paying attention, it’s easy to get nabbed for speeding there.

Justice of the Peace Mark Richardson was elected in 2022. Judge Richardson worked for the Arizona Department of Public Safety (the Arizona highway patrol) for 26 years. At the time of his election, Judge Richardson had lived within the precinct of the Mayer Justice Court for 45 years.
