General Information About The Court
San Marcos Justice Court handles civil cases involving less than $10,000, civil and criminal traffic violations, and misdemeanors. If you receive a ticket from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office or Arizona Department of Public Safety inside the Court’s precinct, your case will be handled here.
The San Marcos Justice Court’s precinct includes sections of the Loop 101 and 202 freeways, so speeding violations, both civil and criminal speeding, are common in this court.

Tucson Voters Ban Red Light Cameras
Earlier this year, a group called Tucson Traffic Justice collected 50,000 signatures in support of a petition to place a proposition on the fall ballot to ban red light cameras. The city council voted unanimously to place Proposition 201 on the ballot and let the voters decide the fate of Tucson’s red light cameras. Following the November 3rd election, voters overwhelmingly voted to ban red light cameras in Tucson with approximately 65% of voters supporting the proposition.
Red Light Cameras Increase Accident Rates
We have known for a long time that red light cameras are not about safety, and we have heard from time to time that red light cameras increase accident rates. Below I discuss some studies that support the fact that red light cameras do not decrease accident rates, but instead increase accident rates.
